Frankenstein: Romanticism?

Our English teacher had been giving us lessons about romanticism, but i don't seem to understand or know what exactly is romanticism. all i know is that it shows a great deal of emotion and expression, but how do i not mistake it for Enlightenment. Hes always asking us about the novel Frankenstein and how the main character, Victor Frankenstein hold the characteristics of Romanticism.. please help me!
